BIO IS SHORT FOR BIOLOGY... RIGHT?
Jeremy Briggs really only likes to consider himself a sketch comedian, but perhaps a little begrudgingly (and fortunately), he's much more. A writer, actor, musician, teacher, and yes, even director, Jeremy has had over 20 years of experience as an artist and performer (classic middle child, amirite?).
Jeremy caught the performing bug at 14, when he began playing in various punk and ska bands all over Reno, NV in the mid to late 90s. After discovering SNL and some of his favorite comedians, such as Phil Hartman and Steve Martin, Jeremy knew that his true calling was in sketch comedy. He realized, however, that there were zero to few available opportunities to pursue his newfound dream in his hometown. He then focused his sights on relocating to Los Angeles.

At 19, Jeremy stepped on stage for the first time as a stand-up comedian. By 23, he performed in and won the Search for the Stars Comedy Competition at the famous Sammy's Showroom in Harrah's Hotel and Casino. This earned him enough money to make the move to Los Angeles and finally pursue his passion. There, he immediately began attending classes at The Groundlings and performed in as many indie sketch venues as possible.

Jeremy may be a comedian, but that doesn't stop him from delving into other interests. His passions (then and now) include music, horror/genre film culture, and writing. So naturally, between his main creative endeavors, Jeremy became entranced by the craft of filmmaking, especially screenwriting. He scoured through, and learned from every screenwriting book he could get his hands on. He was dedicated to honing his scriptwriting skills and applied them to becoming a better writer and comedian.
In 2014, Jeremy had the privilege to act in a film based on his first script to be fully produced, "The Tour", alongside great friends he met while studying at the Groundlings. Soon after finishing the film, Jeremy jumped head first into sketch comedy once again.
After his extensive training at both the Groundlings and UCB, Jeremy found a home at IO West Comedy Theater. IO was a place that encouraged discovery and allowed its members to explore their own personal style of sketch, something that Jeremy felt had been missing in many of the places he trained.
Jeremy was immediately placed on a main stage team and within three years, was given his own team to direct. A year later he was asked to choose and lead a group of respected sketch writers to revive the IO sketch writing program. With his determined leadership, Jeremy and his team labored to improve the sketch writing curriculum, and were able to garner interest in the revamped classes. Within a few short months, they more than quadrupled the number of students, compared to previous sketch courses at IO. Sadly, before the classes could pick up momentum, IO West was closed.
Since then, Jeremy has been working diligently at rejuvenating the once thriving sketch community of the Acme Comedy Theatre. He's applying his many skills to not only renew the theatre's comedic presence but to ensure that interest and attendance of their classes flourish once again.
